Marcin Sawczuk
In the Fall of 2021, we provided information and resources to Marcin on how to obtain a provisional patent in the United States. He is a water filtration engineer. For example, in our report to him, we included sample specifications sections and drawings, as well as conducted a similar prior art search through Google Patents/USPTO.
Cyrin
In the Fall of 2021, CIPEC conducted privacy law research for Cyrin, an upcoming social media app started by Cornell students. In our report to them, we highlighted existing legal statutes in the EU, New York and California that protected consumer data (the SHIELD ACT, GDPR, CalOPPA, California Consumer Privacy Act). We also discussed proposed laws in deliberation (NYPA) and how these laws might affect their business. Overall, we described a compliance strategy. As of November 2021, the company has not yet gone public.
Legal Consulting for rapStudy
In the Fall of 2020, our team conducted a legal research project pertaining to rapStudy’s ability to argue fair use for their platform. We presented our findings to the founders of the company and their legal counsel, the Entrepreneurship Law Clinic at Cornell.
